Plans for a Montessori primary free school in Lewisham are taking shape. Inspired by the Montessori teaching method at a local pre-school, a group of local parents are putting together a proposal for a fully state funded primary school following the method. The school would serve children aged 5-11 in mixed age group classrooms.
The borough is battling a massive shortage of reception class places which is set to worsen in the coming years. This initiative will help address that shortage and, the group hopes, create a model that could be replicated across the country.
